Sightseeing information for Oitama region

When entering Yamagata prefecture over the border by JR Yamagata Superexpress, the Yonezawa Basin is right there. Yonezawa City, one of the castle towns locates right in the entrance of the basin with various historic sites related to Harunori Uesugi (as known as a monarch during Edo era), and the lord of the castle.
Uesugi memorial museum was built in a place where there was Ninomaru (region serves as outside layer of the core of castle) of Yonezawa castle. Uesugi festival is held from April 29th every year.
A neighboring town, Takahata town is knows as a birthplace of Hirosuke Hamada, the writer of children's story. There is also his memorial museum, and the station is named after him (Takahata Station) that has a shape of castle from his fairy tale.
On the northern part of the basin there is Nanyo city, the city of the crane legend (well known Japanese folk tale).

Sightseeing in Yamagata
Spring:Cherry blossoms are at their best from April.
Summer:Hot. Visiting hamlet is recommended.
Fall:Beauty of the leaves when turned in autum. Imoni festivals everywhere!
Winter:Freezing cold with snow, and the trees will be coverd with them and ice.
Snow:Cold, but not as delicous as shaved ice.

Cherries:70% of cherries in Japan are produced in Yamagata Prefecture.
La France pears:The queen of the fruits is also Yamagata's best production.
Yonezawa Beef:As known as "Matsuzaka" of the west, and "Yonezawa" of the east.
Imoni:One of the local dishes of Yamagata which beef soup and taro roots are boiled and seasoned together.
Soba:Buckwheat noodles.
Cold ramen:Yamagata is the birthplace for cold ramen; the chinese noodle.
