Onogawa hot spring

"Ono" of Onogawa hot spring came from a symbol of Japanese beauty "Ononokomachi" who was a poet of Heian period. There is a legend that Ononokomachi healed her illness here on her way to the northeast from Kyoto to look for her father. That is the derivation why it is called Onogawa hot spring. Well known historic general Masamune Date also loved this hot spring whose base was in Yonezawa. Onogawa hot spring still have a common bath called "Amayu", and the area is also known as the villege of lightning bug, and a back room of Yonezawa.

Access: JR Yonezawa station -> 30 minutes by bus/ Tohoku highway Fukushima Izaka IC ->50 km 60 minutes
